Woodsons work is presented in a much simpler ink/brush technique and it gives the work much more of a comic feel, but this is backed up with a keen eye for detail and a beautifully drawn illustration. Much of Holling's work shows a keen eye for detail and proportion yet there is a freedom about his work that lets the illustration look like a screen grab from a film by introducing the paint spray effect to his work suggesting a freedom and movement in the work. See more of Holling's work at http://www.booooooom.com/2009/02/10/matthew-hollings/ I really like the loose pen work mixed in with the realistic details of the eyes, mouse and nose. This mixed in with small patterns and hand written text make for a lively image. I came across his work on eBay while looking for a Captain America DVD as he has also re-illustrated a number of famous movies. I’m beginning to think re-illustrating a movie poster may be a good place to try out some new ideas while allowing me to try out portrait illustration as well. Apart from having a cool name Dangers work suggests memories of dark fairytales that you might just remember from your child hood. There is always a dark tension in his work to keep you looking for deeper meaning in the story he is trying to present. Again illustration in this style is something I want to try out soon... Moss has worked on a number of redesigns of famous posters and always finds a cryptic way to suggest multiple points of reference for the viewer. The silhouette gives the forest a much more menacing feeling and stays away from the horrors that are Ewoks...! To see more of Moss work goto : http://ollymoss.com |
