Enhanced Rock Weathering

Dr Chris Freemantle, Research Fellow at Gray’s asked Iain to assist him with developing some visuals for a research application he was writing to look at Land Use for Net Zero schemes. As an example of an area the research could focus on Iain created an information graphic to visualise and explain the process of enhanced rock weathering.

Enhanced rock weathering is a carbon dioxide removal method that accelerates the natural breakdown of silicate or carbonate rocks. When these finely ground minerals are spread on land, they react with CO₂ and water, forming stable compounds that sequester carbon. This process reduces atmospheric CO₂, improves soil health, and helps mitigate ocean acidification by increasing water alkalinity.
