To launch a school wide project looking at the development of Personal Professional Development at Gray's there was a Studio Open Day on the morning of the 21st of October 2015 where all students got a chance to visit studios across the school and departments to launch the event.

A range of posters were designed to promote the Open Studio Event and the wider remit for PPD in the school. These posters changed and provided more information on a weekly basis over the three weeks running up to the main event.
 
Poster boards around the building are often over full with poster promoting events for students through the semester so the branding for the PPD event was designed to be bold and able to stand against a range of other elaborate posters.

This October sees the first ‘Develop North’ event at Gray’s School of
 Art, celebrating the rich culture
 of photography in the North of Scotland and beyond.

Gray’s will play host to a number of internationally renowned photographers and industry professionals as they discuss their work and practice; it invites students and enthusiasts alike to participate throughout the two-day event.   

The branding for ‘Develop North' has been designed in collaboration with Fiona Stephen who is running the event and will appear across a range of marketing material.

The photograph used in poster design is called ‘Nil’ and is by Gray’s Alumni Steve Macleod, currently Creative Director of Metro Imaging.

This was a fun little project to create four house shields for Hill of Banchory School. The children at the school supplied a range of stories and illustrations regarding the school and surrounding region, which I then developed into final designs.

The house shields incorporated elements reflecting the local community, wild life and education. This was linked to four trees that are common to the region. The new house shields are already in use and proving popular with the children.

The brief for this project was to create twenty-eight illustrations to visualize text for a book, which investigates themes of inspiration, faith and hope.

Working with the author the story was divided into smaller sections to allow for illustration to be presented alongside each segment.

I have really been enjoying the challenge of visualizing the narrative as it develops through each page with a symbol that is striped back to the minimum yet still makes sense to the reader.

The book is just going into production and will be available to the general public in 2015.

The client required a cookery book to raise funds for equipment for a new kitchen being built at the Church, which would support the local community.

The client was keen that the main theme for the book would be to get across ideas of sharing, hospitality, getting together etc. and with this in mind members of the congregation submitted recipes suitable for large gatherings of friends and family.

Although there is a minimal budget they wanted a design that would still stand up against more expansive celebrity cookbooks.

'Emelie Fyvie Photography' provided the still life photography for the book.

Offshore Services Ltd. required a brand that reflected their work in the oil industry. The client required a number of visual element relating to the industry to be used in the design while keeping the design clean and visually strong.

This illustration was created for a crime thriller which featured a female sleuth.

The brief was to create a new design for a book that was published a few years ago which would now be re-released as a digital download through Amazon.

With this in mind I tried to create an image that would stand out at a small scale and also not blend in with the current highly Photoshoped designs that are found in the Amazon books crime section.

Sadly the client decided not to go with my design but I still enjoyed the challenge of producing a illustration that would work with in the brief supplied.

I have just been commissioned to create thirty plus illustrations for a book called "Imagine: Why Not" by a South African author.

The project is well underway now with about ten illustrations completed so far and I will add further images to this page when the project is closer to completion.

This illustration is created for a local auther who required a book cover for a new SciFi book that will be released in early 2013. The book will be published as a limited edition hard back edition and also in a digital format online. 

The book will also feature a small selection of illustrations to highlight key events in the story and this will hark back to the early days of Sci-Fi illustration in the 50's. 

More information to come once the book is launched. The illustration is created in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

This is my first drawing in about ten years so its pretty rough. Apart from trying to remember how to draw a moving subject, I was also learning how to use my new Bamboo Pen and Touch made by Wacom.
Capturing my sons likeness while he was playing proved to be a challenge but I think it's a good start and next time I will try Photoshop.
